Mature Alligators do not eat fresh meat all the time. It can make their stomachs upset. They are scavengers who hunt Or opportunistic hunters.
Instead of relying on finding decomposing meals; these scavengers hunt, unlike other animals who rely on carrion (rotten meat) like the Vulture.
The gator kills its prey, swallows it and takes it back to its layer to throw it up ! They then wait sometimes months to eat the dead animal.
